Gauri Shankar Lal Srivastava s/o Shreedhar Lal was born in Changel village, block Katra, District Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He started his early career from Armed Medical core Services and shifted to Public Health Services. He served in Uttar Pradesh medical and health services at different places viz., Nainital (Kumaoh), Duddhi and Chunar Primary Health Center (PHC). He retired from PHC, Chunar and settled there.
He became popular in Chunar for caring and sharing attitude of each and every person of this town as well as residents of surrounding villages. He was deeply involved on treatment front of any kind of health problems of the community. He was readily available to everyone irrespective of caste and creed/ poor-rich-medium class/ homeless/beggars/ needy person for their health problems. He was popular in the area as ‘Dr. Gauri Babu’. After the retirement, he had opened “GAURI BABU KA DAWAKHANA.” Here all denied cases from BHU’s/ AIIMS and other medical colleges got treated patiently and recovered due to sincere efforts of Dr. Gauri Babu. He was expert in surgery, orthopedic, ENT, Dentist, Medicine, Gynecology, etc. Without X-Ray report, all fracture cases were cured.
Apart from medical front, he was also a great social worker. He never returned any patient for want of money. Not only he provided sufficient medicines after thorough check-up but also provided money for going home to the poorest/ unable human kinds/ patients.
He also supported his all brothers and sisters on every front. He was always keen to provide opportunity for the best education to not only his family members but neighbors too. He always paid attention on quality technical education leading to job orientation/ employment opportunity.
He died due to attack of robbers at home on January 10, 1998. The robbers (three in number) approached to Gauri Babu Ka Dawakhana around 08:30pm on 08.01.1998 in the form of patient and attendants. When he started their treatment they attacked on his head for taking keys. He fought with them (robbers) and made them run away. He was very bold and courageous at this odd situation too. He informed local police about this incident and stated an F.I.R. But due to severe attack on head he got unconscious in the midnight of 08th January 1998 and was rushed to Allahabad Medical College and Hospital but he could not be saved due to brain hemorrhage and died on 10.01.1998. The crowd of Chunar participated in his cremation and expressed their deep sorrow, pain and loss of Maseeha.
His contribution to the society and family will always be remembered as the best doctor, Father, helper for the genuine cause and a great Human Being.
